DIZZEE RASCAL “THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GRIME”!
When speaking to the Guardian about his music collaborations, and his early labelling as a grime artist Dizzee says “Everyone called it Grime, but I didn’t…..there is no such thing as Grime”.
Quizzed on his early labelling as a grime artist, Dizzee said “Everyone called it grime, but I didn’t. All it was was a mixture of all the stuff I was into. There is no such thing as grime.
“It’s like hip-hop – journalists make it up. Grime is just a name that’s from grimy areas and a lot of grimy s**t happening, but as for the music, it’s everything from reggae to drum and bass to Nirvana.”
Oh deary me Dizzee…you have lost it now!!!….”there is no such thing as Grime”!!!!
Sorry but I beg to differ….Whether Grime music is a collective of reggae and drum and bass it still has quite a distinctive sound which like most music needs to be labelled!
Is this Grime? or Reggae fusion??
Ghetts – Artillery
D Double E – ‘Street Fighter’
Wiley – Grime Kid
Although, there might be influences from various musical genres, just let the UK have its own unique sound! Cha….It’s GRIME! Simple!

2.08.2010 at 2:15 pmWhat he said about hip hop is obviously incorrect but who officially called the sound grime? Wiley who was part of pioneers called his sound “eskimo” and “eski beats” so when did it officially become grime and who named it that? Was it the artists? Was it the media? I’ve never really known the answer to those questions.
