4,3,2,1 FILM REVIEW!
I recently attended the 4,3,2,1 media screening check out my review!
What is 4,3,2,1 about?
4.3.2.1, is a sexy, gripping thriller following three days in the lives of four very different girls. Starring some of Britain and America’s most exciting rising stars including Emma Roberts (Nancy Drew, Wild Child), Tamsin Egerton (St. Trinian’s), Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy, London Boulevard) and Shanika Warren-Markland (Adulthood), the four intricately woven stories are about four best friends who become involved in a major diamond heist.
Whilst Jo (Emma Roberts) is chained down in a dead end supermarket job, her friends are all out on their own separate adventures: Cassandra (Tamsin Egerton) is jetting off to New York to meet her Internet boyfriend; Kerrys (Shanika Warren-Markland) is on a one woman crusade fighting for female liberation and Shannon (Ophelia Lovibond) is on a one way trip to meet her maker. But a chance encounter with some diamond thieves sends their separate worlds on a collision course with not only each other, but fate itself. These 4 girls are about to have 3 days they will never forget, spanning to 2 cities. That is… if they survive
The good…….
-
What is refreshing about the film is the way the women are portrayed as strong, powerful and determined characters. This is not to suggest that the girls are ‘issue free’ as the film addresses topical themes, such as depression, low self esteem, Internet dating and identity crises, whilst at the same time exploring the complexity and power of the female! Noel Clarke gives the audience a new and interesting perspective on the issues that young women encounter today!
-
Great cinematology and plot, simple but effective!
The bad……..
The acting was not that impressive! The most promising performance was from Adam Deacon who played the usual comical ‘bad man’, Bashy was ok, but I would of liked to have seen and herd more from him. Emma Roberts showed a lot of potential and Tasmin Egerton played her character fairly well, Shanika’s acting was sufficient, and her portrayal of the typical ‘roudy’ chick was somewhat convincing!
And the sex scene…..
The lesbian sex scene featuring Shanika, was a bit too raunchy and real! The whole cinema went completely still and silent …..I’m sure there was a slight sense of relief when the scene changed!
Is 4,3,2,1 better than Kidulthood and Adulthood?
Well you can’t really compare them, they are completely different! It just depends on what you like!
Would I recommend you watch 4,3,2,1?
Despite the acting, 4,3,2,1 is definitely worth watching, it’s high pace, and easy storyline will keep you entertained! Noel Clarke has delivered a great cinematic peace. Its fair to say he has successfully shown that he is not to be pigeoned holed as just a ‘urban’ film maker!
Girls, I recommend you give Sex And The City a miss, and head for 4,3,2,1 you will leave the cinema with a feel good factor! Boys go along to see some female action!

The acting in my opinion though (apart from Roberts) was terrible.

13.06.2010 at 12:45 pmsaw the film today , thoroughly enjoyed it the London dialect and ethnicity made it really special . The story was very far fetched and even the violence was done in such a way not to be violent . recommend it , its fun to watch , soundtrack good , Just dont take it too serious and go looking to be a critic and you will enjoy it loads .

17.06.2010 at 2:38 pmI actually agree with Miss Mad News, I thought Roberts’ acting was really bad, the other three girls did a much better job.
Totally agree with your comments about the lesbian sex scene, it was far too explicit. I am far from homophobic, but I’d be just as uncomfortable at a heterosexual sex scene that explicit.
I assumed this film was going to be a lot worse than it actually was, so I was quite surprised.
But the acting was lacklustre in comparison to a potentially fantastic storyline.
